The Duke of Wellington
Wellington fought bravely at the Battle of Waterloo and led an army of 73,000 allied troops (Anglo-German-Dutch) to defeat Napoleon on 18 June 1815. In the year that marks Waterloo’s Bicentenary, we can look back at Wellington’s success in the battle and consider it instrumental in ending the series of wars which had crippled Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries. Between the Battle of Waterloo and the Crimean War, Europe enjoyed half a century of peace due to Napoleon’s defeat. As well as his military success, Wellington also enjoyed political leadership culminating in his appointment as Prime Minister in 1828. See our blog post on the Iron Duke and his impact on British history here: Celebrating The Battle of Waterloo.
The rich colour tones in this pocket square produce a unique and decadent effect, combining traditional red and gold hues and offering a variety of display options. This regal square looks striking against navy and dark blue suits, and works particularly well for special occasions. For a distinguished look, this pocket square works well in the two point fold.
